Publisher's Note As you read this, I am about to start a 3 week vacation - I will have good computer access, but most likely will not be publishing every week of my trip. I do not expect to put out an issue on June 21, but there should be an issue ready for June 28 or July 5. Thank You. Stamp Radio Following in the tradition of Captain Tim Healy and his Ivory Stamp Club radio program of the 1930's, stamps and radio have moved to the internet. With the advent of internet radio, it becomes quite possible for programs that can't generate a huge national audience to find a home on internet radio. Such a radio station, wsRadio (located at http://www.wsradio.com now has a program called Major Ted's Stamp Talk. The show is broadcast live every Saturday at 3pm Eastern, and an archive of each show is then placed on the web site for all to hear. The first show just aired last week, June 8th. It featured several members of the American Philatelic Society, including Executive Director Bob Lamb, as well as Michael Laurence, the Editorial Director of Amos Press and Linns Stamp News. I listened to the archive of the first show, and I am impressed with what I have heard so far. What I found interesting was that they were set up to take telephone calls during the show. Although there were no calls (perhaps it was a too early broadcast time that was the reason) the fact that they will take calls is really a great way to start a dialogue between collectors, and those who have a strong influence on the hobby. I hope more people listen, and participate. If you get a chance, I recommend listening to the archived shows, and hopefully listening to future shows. It started some time ago, but with the Greetings From America stamps, many reported receiving something, including me. They seem to be sent from several post offices across the country, and some have even been sent from Great Britain. I have an example of one scanned at:
Whoever the mystery sender is, they are still at it (although I have not received anything past the Greetings From stamps) - Whoever is sending these covers out, thank you! People at the Virtual Stamp Club are trying to figure out who the mystery sender is, but are not working too hard at it. I don't think they want to blow that person's cover (pun intended), because it might mean an end to the mailings. Some mysteries are better left unsolved. Thanks for reading, see you next week.
